Typically law enforcement agencies in Ventura County conduct DUI checkpoints on major holidays like the Fourth of July. This year city police agencies, the CA Highway Patrol and the Ventura County Sheriff's Office participated in checkpoints throughout Ventura County during the July 4th weekend.
Patrols were conducted in Ventura County including Camarillo, Oxnard, Port Hueneme, Ventura, Moorpark and Thousand Oaks as well as unincorporated areas.
Although law enforcement agencies recommended that people designate a sober driver or find a safe way home after drinking, this year's checkpoints yielded a number of DUI arrests.
Seventy-eight (78) people were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs over the July 4th holiday weekend.
